Heartbreaker

So today I'm talking about relationships once again.  This time it is in relation to one of my favorite new songs.  How to be a Heartbreaker by Marina and the Diamonds is about becoming a heart breaker in order to not get your own heart broken.  Marina sings about 4 key rules one has to follow in order to successfully be a heart breaker.

Rule #1 is to have fun but also be the first one to leave the relationship if you think its going sour.

Rule #2 is to not get attached to the person

Rule #3 is to never wear your heart on your sleeve a.k.a don't put your heart out there.

Rule #4 is to be pure, "leave him wanting more" -Marina

So, are these sure fire ways to be a heart breaker?  YES!  Bad news though, you'll just end up with a broken heart as well.  And what's worse is, you can't be mad at him/her because, IT WAS YOUR FAULT!
Does that mean that if you don't follow these rules you'll be fine?  Hate to be the one to break it to you but...that's a big fat NO.  In the bridge Marina even admits this. (DUH, the song is kind of a satire in the way that it points out the flaws of its own points on purpose to showcase the idiocy*)
*not complete idiocy, but I will get to that.
"Girls, we do, whatever it will take
Cause girls don't want, we don't want our hearts to break
In two, so it's better to be fake
Can't risk losing love again babe."-Marina

This song has found a clever way of saying that there is no sure fire way to avoid heart break.  And honestly the question you should be asking in a budding relationship is not: Am I going to get my heart broken again?  But instead: Is it worth it even if I do?

But now we come to my next point which you might think is a paradox to my previous statement.  Maybe its okay to be a heart breaker.
Okay, I know what your thinking, but hear me out.
If your in high school this seems kind of practical to me.  Now, I know love isn't practical but that doesn't mean your relationship can't be.  I'm not advocating the complete message that I'm sure only works for those guys, you know the ones I'm talking about.  So here's a modified version that I think I might just use as a high school relationship bible (or at least one of the volumes ;))

Rule #1: Is still to have fun but instead of running too quickly just try not to hold on too long.

Rule #2: Don't become too attached a.k.a clingy.

Rule #3: Instead, I think you should wear your heart on your sleeve without being too emotional.  It shows him/her where you stand in the relationship.

Rule #4: I'm keeping this one for it's the absolute truth in my mind; you've got to stay pure (or pretty close to it) especially in high school!

So, are these modified rules a sure fire way to never get your heart broken?  NO WAY!
Are these rules easier in theory?  Definitely.
But keep them in mind!  Don't become the monster you're trying to avoid but don't make it easy for them either.  and lastly....
HAVE FUN!!!!!
Disclaimer: As a human being it is YOUR JOB to make YOUR OWN decisions about relationships.  Just providing my take.

This is the song, enjoy ;)
